Vadh: The Thin Line Between Right & Wrong

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

Gripping screenplay enhanced by stellar performances make Vadh a must watch

What is the difference between a murder and slaughter? Apparently, both are similar with minute differences. In a case where the criminal can be killed and an innocent too, a character analysis of the victim just stands irrelevant. Perhaps only murderers, criminals or sinners of demonic characters can be killed. This is the gist of the film ‘Vadh’.

A simple couple who take a loan from a shark to support their child’s education and face severe harassment as they fail to repay the money as their son refuses to support them. But what happens when the ordinary man has his back against the wall? What comes next can be easily called a dark thriller.

The movie doesn’t have a big multi-star cast, huge sets, expensive outdoor shooting, eye-catching flash of technology or a smattering of paid promotions wrapped up in the media. Director Jaspal Singh Sandhu (who himself makes a cameo) has won hearts with only four main characters and a dilapidated house used as a set.

Sanjay Mishra, who plays Shambhunath Mishra, a humble retired school teacher from Gwalior, is one of the most underrated actor in Bollywood. This movie clearly shows that Mishra has more to give that just slapstick comedy. Similarly, even Neena Gupta who’s playing Shambhunath’s wife, Manju, is getting sharper with age.

Although, Manav Vij aka Shakti Singh, a corrupt cop in the film, could not return as much as benefits he got in the screenplay, Sumit Sachdev (the loan shark Prajapati Pandey) gives a stunning performance. One thing is sure that the viewers will definitely want to spit at his brutal and disguised portrayal of Pandey.

Mystery is created in the atmosphere of light and darkness, and the chemistry of the film develops with it. This movie will hold you with bated breath till the last second because at the end of the day, this is a story of ordinary people like us, wounded in the battle of life each day and always lose.

Available on Netflix, the film tends to answer a serious question: What is a perfect crime? Does a thing like that exist? And can only a seasoned criminal hide the evidence so well that he can’t be caught?

To know the rest, watch this movie!
