Sheetal Lodha Foundation hosts a specialised eye camp for children with disabilities
In a heartening display of compassion and dedication, the Sheetal Lodha Foundation recently organised an eye camp under the banner of the Vision India Initiative. The camp, which catered to children with multiple disabilities, saw participation from 85 youngsters facing various challenges including mental retardation and severe physical disabilities.
The beneficiaries of this noble endeavour were children associated with the Muskan Foundation, an esteemed organisation committed to supporting individuals grappling with multiple disabilities. Ranging in age from 2 to 15 years old, these children received specialised care aimed at addressing their unique needs.
During the camp, held in a spirit of inclusivity and care, three children were provided with spectacles, aiming to enhance their visual acuity and quality of life. Additionally, 59 children were identified as requiring further medical attention and were recommended for hospital referral for issues concerning their retina and squints.
The success of the camp was facilitated by the utilisation of specialised tools and techniques. Hospital teams, equipped with charts featuring logarithmic symbols, meticulously examined each child, paying careful attention to their developmental challenges. This dedicated team comprised a pediatric ophthalmologist and optometrists, specially trained to assist children with multiple disabilities, ensuring thorough and comprehensive care.
Crucially, the Muskan Foundation team played a pivotal role in the smooth execution of the camp, offering invaluable support and expertise. Their contribution was instrumental in addressing the complex needs of the children and ensuring that they received the care and attention they rightfully deserve.
The Sheetal Lodha Foundation's initiative underscores the importance of community-driven efforts in addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations. By extending a helping hand to children facing multiple disabilities, they have not only provided essential medical support but also demonstrated a profound commitment to inclusivity and compassion.
As the camp concludes, the impact of this initiative resonates beyond the confines of medical treatment, serving as a testament to the power of collective action in creating a more equitable and caring society.
