Making Your Home Timeless

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

Interior design trends come and go, but changing trends are important to consider to avoid going overboard with your creativity

A well designed home tells your story. The most beautiful spaces capture an individual’s unique style and that cannot be captured by following a single trend. Interior design trends come and go, but if you are planning to buy a new home or just give the existing one a quick refresh, changing trends are important to consider.

Here is my take on some simple and classic interior design trends that will never go out of style.

Minimalism

Most houses, especially in a city like Mumbai have space constraints. Multi-purpose furniture with hidden storage compartments are the key to a minimalistic home. For instance, ottomans with a storage lid not just make for great seating options but can also be used to store throws and smaller pillows. Similarly, cane baskets also act as great storage units while adding a touch of texture to your bedroom, living room or even your powder rooms.

Space for your pooch

This one’s especially for all you pet lovers who cannot get enough of their fur babies. Cats tend to have their own space and you can create a haven for them with a small bed and their favourite toys. For dogs, you would probably have to create a space for yourself or find a room where you can send them when you don’t need them racing around the house. Make sure there is a comfortable bed and a water bowl close by. You can also use cute baskets to store their toys, which are also always accessible to them.

Go green

Plants are possibly the easiest and most sustainable way to accessorize your home, without adding too much décor and furniture. Small indoor plants are becoming increasingly popular as they look great, add a pop of colour and require minimal maintenance. You can also use colourful planters that match the décor and colour palette of your home. You can find a range of options online, or even at a local nursery.

Boho chic

The classic boho lifestyle is all about being casual and comfortable. Hence, adding boho elements to your home should exude the same vibe. Create a cozy space in your bedroom or even living room by using floor pillows or small bedding in bright hues. It is extremely pocket friendly and adds a vibrant touch to the room. Creating a bohemian style space gives you the freedom to play with textures. You can use aesthetic baskets, natural fibre rugs, lamps made of cane and upholstery in neutral colours, to add some warmth.

Keep it simple

However, you choose to design your home, you must ensure to keep it as simple and clean as possible. Using less furniture and smaller décor pieces will not only add to the aesthetic of your home, but will also give you ample space to move freely, entertain comfortably and most importantly de clutter.
