Leading The Wolf Pack: A New World Order

Updated: Jun 2, 2023

Magic unravels when a fantastic bunch of unique individuals come together for a cause

People who know me know very well that I do not preach what I don’t practice. And yet, what follows may seem preachy so my humble request is to not kill the messenger <writer in this case>. Here, it goes.

As we continue to build the mighty empire of Lodha Ventures, and scale exponentially, we will need to import talent from the world outside. As the flagbearers of this magnificent organization, it is imperative for us to cognize the new world order while arriving at decisions pertaining to hiring and recruitment.

The new world order, as per me, represents the rise of the individual vis-à-vis the enterprise. While we at LV remain custodians of the enterprise, we must remain vigilant of the need for all individuals, both within and outside our enterprise, to express their quirks, their eccentricities and hence their individualities.

Magic does unravel when a fantastic bunch of individuals, who are unique and different from each other, come together for a cause and that’s exactly what we have been able to achieve at LV. Amongst this diverse pool of talent that we proudly own, the few things common amongst all have been exceptional sense of integrity, the desire to excel, and a very strong inclination to look at the business as their very own.

As the CEO of the largest and most trusted branded land developer in the country proudly and rightly proclaims that one must always bring one’s true self to work to excel at work, it becomes even more important for us to bring leaders at every level who not only understand this but live and breathe this concept - Leaders who appreciate diversity across gender, thought, age and experience.

Just like a wolf pack or a wolf social organization, the current structure of this vastly diverse organization has wolves hungry for success – both individual and organizational. They all play different and complex roles for the org – while there may be Alphas, Betas, Omegas, they all remain committed to the cause of the enterprise. And yet, each of them is vastly different from the other, just like a wolf pack, and they all contribute in their own unique ways.

Which brings me back to the point that individuality and uniqueness of every individual has to be appreciated by anyone and everyone joining our ecosystem at leadership levels. Before getting critical of gaps, which one should eventually do to help the organization scale beyond imagination, one has to fall in love with the wolf pack they have been given the privilege to lead.

We have to constantly be on the lookout for empathetic individuals, who love and appreciate diversity to the point of unconditional love, for us to find leaders who will come in, be accepted, loved, revered and respected. This will enable these incoming leaders to bring about meaningful change and drive change as their new team members will respond positively to the change and drive with full conviction.

And just like a wolf pack, respect for the leaders will also be a function of their contribution to the wolf pack – as to how they bring in heightened efficiencies and unprecedented performance in the ecosystem with their vast knowledge. But, before efficiency will always come empathy – Only then can our new leaders with unshakeable confidence say – Throw me to the wolves and I will return leading the pack.
