A Little Bit Of You On Your Desk

Updated: Apr 7, 2023

Your workspace should personify all the goals you’re trying to achieve

The biggest misconception about design is that it’s all about what a product or service looks like. In reality, design is how and why the product or service functions. It is "the process of taking an idea and making it tangible and useful," McKinney once said.

We usually want a design to make us feel safe and at ease. Looking at aesthetic pictures alone make us feel a sense of calm and positivity. A lot of people prefer to include Vastu in their designing process to assure they gather the best energy from it. This is also applicable to how you design your office or workspace.

Your workspace should signify all the goals you’re trying to achieve. There are a few things to keep in mind when you’re ramping up your workstation.

1. Assess the space and its needs. Before you plan your new office design, analyse how much space you have and the best ways to use it.

2. Create a design brief.

3. Choose the right people to bring your vision to reality.

4. Set your budget to not overdo the process.

5. Start with a storyboard or a vision board to plan the final look.

6. Create a space plan and then focus on decorating the same.

Design can say a lot about a person and their personality. For instance, someone religious would have at least a photo or an idol of the god they believe in. If a person likes to spend time closer to nature they may have an indoor plant added to their space. I, personally, prefer to line my very many coffee mugs in an organised manner on beautiful coasters so that they look aesthetically pleasing as well as give me an innate feeling of love behind those gifts and relive the memories associated with the mugs.

Here are a few things you can incorporate on your workstation to represent particular feelings and emotions:

1. Matching Desk Set

To make your desk more visually appealing, use a single theme desk set that includes a matching pen holder, paper organiser, tape dispenser and other supplies.

The bold colours and unique designs that matching desk sets are typically available in, give your office space a cohesive and inviting look. They can also help your desk look more organized without any distractions.

2. A Notepad

Place a notepad on your desk where you can write notes and to-do lists, even though today there are many digital options available. A pad of paper is still convenient for writing details down quickly. Notepads are also easier to bring into meetings than laptops, and writing in them is less distracting than typing.

Blank sheets allow you more creativity, particularly if you include drawings and designs in your notes.

3. Hang Artwork

Surround your office with images and objects that are inspiring, such as pictures with mottos or images that symbolize what you want to accomplish.

They will not only motivate you to achieve your goals but also remind you to stay grounded yet have a forward-looking approach towards life.

4. Feng Shui

There are lots of ways to make your work environment more inviting and productive. But have you considered feng shui? Incorporating the core five elements of Feng Shui – wood, fire, water, earth, and metal – can help the flow of natural energy in your workspace.
